Executive director of the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation was present at a press conference held today at the Minnesota Attorney General’s office for the launch of the Dose of Reality campaign, an awareness campaign which was successfully implemented by Wisconsin’s Attorney General, Brad Schimel, that addresses the public health crisis of opioid overdose as the “fastest growing drug problem in the U.S. and Minnesota”. The Dose of Reality Awareness Campaign has a simple message, “Use your prescriptions only as prescribed to you. This is an issue where every household plays a role in a safer community”. The campaign aims to educate the public by 1) informing how to use prescriptions safely, 2) warning about the dangers associated with self-medication, and 3) providing information on the disposal of prescription medications — prescription drop off locations are searchable on an interactive map.
The campaign utilizes multiple communication tactics such as a website, brochures, and an alarming public service announcement which will play in movie theaters and on television.
We would like to thank the speakers at today’s conference which included, Attorney General, Lori Swanson, Wisconsin Attorney General, Brad Schimel, Representative Dave Baker, Senator Chris Eaton and Anoka County Attorney, Tony Palumbo for their tireless work and acknowledgement of the need for advocacy, awareness, prescriber education and overdose prevention.
